Quarterbridge appointed to assist with relocation of Worksop Market.

Since being appointed by Bassettlaw District Council in August, Quarterbridge have been advising on the relocation of Worksop Street Market to Bridge Street, a pedestrianised High Street close to the Town Centre.

The market’s current location adjacent the Town Hall off Potter Street will be the site of a new cinema, with work due to commence in May 2011. The relocation to the High Street will improve trading for both market traders and surrounding businesses, with a projected increase in footfall for the market of between 200 and 250%. The new cinema opening will be a high profile event in Worksop so is it critical that progress is not affected by the relocation.

In securing Project Management from Quarterbridge, the council’s main objectives are to ensure the relocation proceeds with minimum disruption within a very short timescale. Work cannot commence in the High Street until after the busy Christmas trading period has ended and must be completed by the end of March.

To ensure continuity of communication, Quarterbridge are taking the lead role in discussions with traders, and dealing with all legal issues such as licence termination and negotiations with existing High Street shop owners.

The High Street is within a conservation area so preparation of stall designs and layouts for planning approval, procurement of stalls and awnings and changes to street furniture whilst advising on best practice for future management must all be done with respect to sensitive environmental guidelines and legal statutory requirements.
