Swansea Market Hall

Swansea hosts the largest indoor market hall in Wales with an exceptionally good seafood and local produce offer. It’s 1960’s design was overdue for a makeover so Quarterbridge organised a condition survey before producing a costed repair and upgrade programme for the ventilation, lighting, floor and decorative finishes. Upgrading is an ongoing project for the City Council and an initial refurbishment of the public entrances was brought forward after an offer of financial assistance from theWelsh Assembly. Quarterbridge specified and managed the works and the illuminated external ‘sails’ have now been renewed, nonslip coloured resin floor finishes laid in each of the entrance lobbies and automatic doorsets installed. Scrolling LED information signs over each entrance canopy now promote special offers and events and work is in hand for comprehensive modernisation throughout the building. This will include an IT and promotional infrastructure to help traders develop their businesses and increase sales turnover. Feedback from traders to this first phase has been very positive and careful management of the entrance works has shown how improvements can be implemented without disrupting a busy market that trades 6-days per week.
