Filling-in the holes

I didn’t win last month’s pub sweepstake to predict the outcome of the Chancellor’s emergency budget, but I did manage a creditable second. I got the increases in VAT, Capital Gains Tax and NI contributions right but failed to predict tax on booze and fags being unaffected and the size of the 25% cut in public spending. Oddly- enough the winner of the top-of-the- range bar meal and free pint was the local postman whose predictions were suspiciously accurate. So what is the general feeling about George Osborne’s proposals to fill-in the holes in the public finances?
